A new service called Music On Command allows radio listeners in the U.S. to call a toll-free number while listening to the radio and have a link to purchase the song (or talk radio, news broadcast etc) from Buy.com emailed to them. Read more about it here and sign up for the beta test here.
There’s certainly a market for a service that can help identify a song you are hearing on the radio or other public broadcast. But this seems a bit clunky…I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the lane next to the person frantically trying to dial the toll free number before the song ends! That said, some sort of quick pushbutton USB flash memory device (small enough to fit on a keychain) that offered “one click capture” of songs that would later be inserted into a computer where it would connect with a service to identify the snippets of music could be a winner.
