This New York Times article takes a look at some of the current cellphones that are music capable. While they have nowhere near the capacity, flexibility and ease of use as a dedicated digital music player, the technology is improving* and we’re probably just a generation or two away from a phone that really handles digital music well.

*by improving, I’m not necessarily suggesting that the technology is getting more advanced. Sometimes, making an existing technology easier to use is improvement enough….
