Melodeo has announced the deployment of their Bluetooth P2P technology for sharing music between mobile handsets. Melodeo’s technology allows consumers who have purchased music for their handset to send a copy of that song to another Bluetooth capable phone. The beamed song will play only as a 30 second preview until the recipient chooses to unlock the full version of the song by choosing to purchase it. They will then be billed by their carrier for the track. The Melodeo system can also send music as a gift, with the charges billed to the sender’s account.
I had the opportunity to see a demo of Melodeo in action a couple of months ago at the Mobile Music Conference in Miami and was impressed. It was fast, simple and showed a lot of potential. I look forward to the U.S. rollout. You can read more about Melodeo on their website.
