Here’s a terrific article on creating and optimizing one sheets from Bob Baker’s Indie Music Promotion blog. While one sheets have traditionally been more an "analog" tool in the setup and promotion of a new album, digital versions also proliferate, and whether analog or digital the tips in this article are valid. Many of my industry colleagues will read the article and feel that these guidelines are nothing but good common sense. I agree with them. But read the article first and then take a look at the last series of one sheets your label/artist produced–you may discover that some of that good common sense got overlooked before the one sheets went to the printer.

Think of the one sheet as your resume–you’ve got a short window of that person’s attention so you’ll want your "resume" to hit the important points quickly and concisely. Bob’s post collects a series of resources that will provide a slew of good tips, and advice on how to alter your one sheet to best connect with your audience…pay extra careful attention to Meg Hansen’s "Your Story On One Page" link.
