Usenet Rises From the Ashes

According to this article in Wired, Usenet (newsgroups) are seeing a resurgence in use that is driven largely by piracy. Usenet was an early Internet technology that was mostly used as a bulletin board that was largely used by the more technically inclined. File attachments to usenet posts were a big no-no through much of the early 90s (as they were an irritant to dial-up modem users), but increased broadband usage and the creation of the alt.binaries hierarchy made Usenet a place to get pirated software and MP3s with relative anonymity provided you had the patience and understanding to put up with the quirks of the Usenet system.
