An early Lee Morgan session (29 Sep 1957) showcasing him at his fiery best with Pepper Adams (baritone sax) Bobby Timmons (piano) Paul Chambers (bass) & Philly Joe Jones (drums). Aptly titled, and Morgan has a number of tricks up his sleeve that elevate this session from noteworthy to must-hear. Morgan would go on to release albums that would become classics, but this date is the first containing his own compositions, and where he really started to find his own voice. His next album ‘Candy’ is where it really all came together but ‘The Cooker’ is an equally fine session to my ears. #jazzandcoffee #leemorgan #bluenoterecords #vinyl #jazz #vinylcollection
