If you’re looking for a knockout record filled with swagger, bravado and confidence, grab this record and a strong cup of your favorite demon brew on this National Coffee Day. Tenorist Mighty Joe Henderson teams up with Lee Morgan (trumpet), Bobby Hutcherson (vibes), Curtus Fuller (trombone), Cedar Walton (piano), Ron Carter (bass) & Joe Chambers (drums) for what would be his final @bluenoterecords session as a leader in the 60s. There is a LOT going on here—the compositions push past the boundaries of hard bop and the players are all at the peak of their powers. The results are simply stunning, with bonus points to pianist Cedar Walton who just nails it perfectly whether as soloist or accompanist. Sonically, this Music Matters 45 pressing is a BEAST…while they always do stellar work, this particular record is absolutely one of my all-time favorites that will make anyone in the room take notice. Great, great, GREAT album…I recommend listening to it RIGHT NOW! #jazzandcoffee #joehenderson #vinyl #nowspinning #nationalcoffeeday #jazz #vinylporn #vinyligclub #vinylcollection #bluenote #bluenoterecords #bobbyhutcherson #curtisfuller #cedarwalton #roncarter #joechambers #musicmatters #jazzvinyl #jazzvinylcollector
