Tenor sax legend Dexter Gordon recorded the essential ‘Go’ today (27 Aug) back in 1962 with Sonny Clark (piano) Butch Warren (bass) & Billy Higgins (drums). No jazz collection is complete without it. Dexter’s quartet hit like champs with swagger & confidence on the uptempo numbers, bouncing with a nimble, infectious energy. That same team can bring you to tears with poingancy and sensitivity—I defy you *NOT* to be moved when listening to “I Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out To Dry”. In this playlist dominated era, it’s less frequent that I’m asked for a starter “album” from those looking to explore jazz but when I am, this is definitely on this list—six tracks cover a wide range of blues, ballads, swing and groove over 38 minutes/6 tracks. A core hard bop record. This is the Music Matters 33 pressing, with INCREDIBLE sound that takes over the entire room. #jazz #vinyl #dextergordon #bluenote #nowspinning #vinylporn #vinylcollector #vinylcollection #jazzrecords
