If you dig Crescent/Love Supreme-era Coltrane or some of the more straightforward Strata East titles, you’ll *LOVE* this. A soaring, spiritual/modal jazz excursion with INCREDIBLE sonics, the Japanese-only vinyl release ‘Love on the Sudan’ features Billy Harper (tenor sax) Mickey Tucker (piano), Gregg Maker (bass), Malcolm Pinson (drums), and Everett Hollins (trumpet). Recorded for the Denon Jazz label (YX-7568-ND) in late June 1977, it’s now widely available via digital services with additional music in the form of a longer version of “The Awakening”, and seems like suddenly this once-scarce vinyl title is popping up all over the place. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Terrific stuff. Harper is a BEAST on tenor. #jazzandcoffee #vinyl #billyharper #jazz #vinylporn #vinylcollection #nowspinning #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #vinyloftheday
