The multi-talented Duke Pearson recorded a couple of records for Atlantic in the mid 60s. The second of these ‘Prarie Dog’ is an excellent vehicle for Pearson’s arranging skills and has a GREAT lineup. The track “Soulin’” written by Joe Henderson is the major highlight—FANTASTIC! Featuring Duke Pearson (piano, celeste), Johnny Coles (trumpet), James Spaulding (alto sax/flute), George Coleman (tenor sax), Harold Vick (tenor/soprano sax), Gene Bertoncini (guitar), Bob Cranshaw (bass), Mickey Roker (drums). This copy is Atlantic 3005, mono. While Pearson certainly made better records, he never made a bad one and this one is very much worth hearing, and for Person fans probably worth owning. #jazzandcoffee #vinylcollection #vinyl #jazz #nowspinning #vinylporn #dukepearson #haroldvick #johnnycoles #jamesspaulding
